Biography: Benny Urquidez
Benny “The Jet” Urquidez has been a legendary moving force in the martial arts for five decades. A six-time world champion in five weight class divisions, Urquidez became one of the most significant figures for pioneering full-contact fighting (kickboxing) in the United States. Undefeated throughout his twenty-seven year professional fighting career, he catapulted to world prominence and ultimate dominance in the mid-1970s. He reigned over the sport throughout his entire career. During his years as a martial artist, he became an international movie star, appearing on the screen with such luminaries as Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and John Cusack. Indeed, the jaw-dropping fight scene between Sensei Benny and Jackie Chan in the movie Wheels on Meals is regarded to this day as being one of the best martial arts movie fights in cinematic history. Urquidez was inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum's Hall of Fame in 1999.
